Why Story?

“Let me tell you a story…” I believe the power of those six words can change the world. There is something that naturally draws the human ear when those six words are spoken. They cause you to perk up, and lean in forward and pay close attention. It is the power of the story.

34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable. 35 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES;

I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.” (Matt 13:34,35)

I have read that scripture so many times but had never really understood it until now. Jesus always told stories. As a church what better model could we follow, what better church building model could we use than storytelling.

It is with this seed that God planted in my spirit that “Parables” Church has sprouted up. “Parables” is a community of Christ followers committed to telling God’s Story and “Making God’s Story Our Story”.

  • More than 70% of the Bible is in story form.

  • Biblical Leaders used Storytelling to communicate God’s message

    • Moses

    • Joshua

    • David

    • Gospel writers

    • Stephen

    • Paul (sharing his testimony)

    • Author of Hebrews

  • Jesus never spoke with out using a parable (Mark 4:33-34)

Bible stories make an impact and communicate truth narratively. Stories open doors for gaining knowledge of God, understanding man’s sinful condition, revealing truths, and having an encounter with Jesus Christ. Bible stories create memories in the listener’s minds.
